In A Pit With A Lion On a Snowy Day--in March?
Don't know what the weather's like in "your neck of the woods," but here in western PA, we're digging out from another snow, after a brief bout with warm and sunny. Anyway, the weather reminded me of a great book I've worked through over the past week--In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day, by Mark Batterson. Mark ranks up there with Bruce Wilkinson (the Prayer of Jabez) for being able to take an obscure biblical list, and finding a powerful reference with life-changing potential for those who latch onto it. Mark's "find" is 2 Samuel 23:20-21, the record of Banaiah son of Jehoiada, who eventually became a bodyguard for King David, AND the commander of the entire Israeli army under King Solomon. Why? Because Benaiah took an uncommon risk--he went down into a pit -- CHASING -- a lion on a snowy day. AND Benaiah won! Talk about victory to the underdog! Anyway, Batterson's book gives us seven characteristics of "lion-chasers," those who take uncommon risks because they know God is in them. Mark writes well, makes solid points, and does all he can to unleash the lion-chaser within each of us.
Visit Amazon.com or CBD or your local bookstore (although, I had to wait for a back order delivery from CBD, and my local bookstore had it on order) and get a copy. The book's also linked on my "What I'm Reading List," and I guarantee you'll find it challenging and practical. Let me know what you think of it once you've read it. Let Mark know, too.
