Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 Reading for the Day: Mat. 13-14 and Acts 19-20 Focus on Acts 20:20b
Today's focus is one half of one verse: Acts 20:20b "I taught you publicly and from house to house." Pastor Dale Galloway calls this Paul's "20/20 Vision." The vision is to preach and teach the Good News of Jesus publicly--most likely in the marketplace, since there weren't any church buildings yet, and the early believers were already starting to be banned from synagogues; and from house to house--small group ministry! Every church that seeks to be effective in growing people past infancy in the life in Jesus Christ needs to have both a "public" preaching and teaching ministry AND home groups. Those home groups may be "official" as our L.I.F.E. Home Groups. They may also be formed in families, as part of missions teams, in informal gatherings of believers. The key will be that Jesus is lifted up, His word is taught, and people encourage one another to be and live more like Jesus. Reading God's word on our own is good. Reflecting on it, praying through it and living it out in community is even better.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your instructions that show us how we can grow as Your children and followers. Give me the wisdom to read Your word daily, to interact with other believers through the week, and to worship You with the whole body of believers on Sundays. Let me learn and live Your truth in the power of the Holy Spirit that You may be glorified in all I am and do. This I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
