Next Step #36
Sorry this installment of “Next Steps” is so late! Today, we’re going to look at a familiar passage from Luke’s Gospel, where Jesus tells us how easy it is for us to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus was actually talking about prayer, and how God answers our prayer so much more faithfully than we respond to our children’s requests. Here’s what He said, 11“You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” Luke 11:11-13 NLT Do you ask the Heavenly Father to give or fill you with the Holy Spirit every day? Remember, we’ve learned that being filled with the Holy Spirit isn’t a once and for all experience, but rather is to be an ongoing reality (see Ephesians 5:18.) Make sure that you take the time each day—and throughout the day, when you notice that you aren’t living under the Spirit’s guidance and power—to ask the Heavenly Father to give you with the Holy Spirit anew. He IS faithful to respond to His children’s requests, when we come to Him in faith!
