What Gets You Out of Bed?

Our older daughter Abby is NOT a morning person, so it was more than a little unusual for her to tell us last night that she would be getting up at 4:45 this morning!  What would get her out of bed at that hour?  A game the seniors at her high school are playing.  On most mornings, it takes a lot of effort for her to get up 6:00 or 6:15, but this morning she was up at 4:45.

As I thought about that I realized that I tend to get up at a slightly different time of day each day based on what's going on in my life.  I was up a little before 5:00 today, since I have a 5:45 breakfast meeting on Thursdays.  On Fridays, my "Sabbath" I tend to get up anywhere between 5:00-7:00 depending on how I'm using the day.  What about you?  Do you get up at the same time each morning? (The "experts" say that's best for us!) What gets you out of bed? Is it an "appointment" with God? Or is it the default activity of the day:  school, work, laundry... ?

Jesus got up early every day and invested the first part of the day with His Heavenly Father.  Some of us aren't morning people, but most of us just need an adequate amount of sleep and we can get up based on that.  I'd like to say that God gets me out of bed every day, and many days He does, but not every day.  As those who belong to Jesus, we'd do well to follow His example and get out of bed to be with the Father.  Why not set an appointment with Him for tomorrow morning and get out of bed for the best reason of all!
