Why "One Person At A Time"?
The blog's title is "One Person At A Time". Why? The mission of New Life Christian Ministries is simple: Sharing the New Life of Jesus Christ with the world--one person at a time." My prayer for this blog is that one more person at a time may come to trust Jesus as Savior and Lord.
That mission has driven my life in one way or another since at the age of thirteen, Jesus drew me to Himself. At the time being a pastor was the last thing on my mind. I'm one of those who was not a pastor or the son of a pastor. My dad was a coal miner, and lived his life far from God until just a couple years before his death. A godly mother prayed for her sons, and lived the life in Jesus. The prayers and example bore fruit. Others along the way lived the transformation that only Jesus can bring, none more than Andy Weigand, a lay pastor, who served Gipsy Christian Church as I lived out my late teen years there. More than anyone I had ever known, Andy exuded the life of Jesus in his life. A Harvard graduate, and a great tennis player, Andy chose to serve a fifty member church in an obscure town in western Pennsylvania. When I first met Him, I thought he was nuts. He told me that God had "called" him to Gipsy. My response, "On the phone?" I was a wise guy, and he was a wise young man, whose wisdom came from knowing Jesus. I don't know how many people Andy impacted in Gipsy, but at least one life was impacted forever--mine. My prayer and hope for several decades now has been that I could do what Andy did, and still does--live the new life of Jesus so that others could see it and be challenged to live it, too. That always happens....one person at a time!
